If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, you want to know you are receiving the best care available. At Jupiter Medical Center, we take a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care. Multidisciplinary care means that experts from various medical backgrounds (or disciplines) work together to offer their knowledge and expertise as a team. Patients benefit by knowing that no aspect of their care is overlooked. As a patient, you can be assured that a qualified team of breast cancer specialists is reviewing your case and creating a care plan tailored especially for you.
For many facing a breast cancer diagnosis, the most difficult part is navigating the health care system. Trying to see multiple physician specialists and determine the best course of treatment can be time consuming and cause anxiety and stress. Jupiter Medical Center’s breast cancer patient navigator can be a great resource to you at this time. Our dedicated breast cancer patient navigator is with you from the time of diagnosis throughout your treatment and into survivorship.
Jupiter Medical Center offers patients the opportunity to participate in our multidisciplinary breast clinic. The clinic brings together all breast cancer-related physician specialists in one location at one time. When a woman is referred to the breast clinic, she sees a number of physician specialists in a matter of hours, rather than weeks or even months. National guidelines and standards are used in creating a treatment plan, taking into account each patient’s individual needs. Patients are able to get their questions answered and go home with a definitive treatment plan, personalized just for them.
Our team includes radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, general surgeons and our breast cancer patient navigator. You will also have the opportunity to meet with some of our support services team, including: nutrition services, rehabilitation and survivorship services. Our navigator will work with you to make certain you understand your treatment options, assist with various appointments, provide education and support, and help connect you with the appropriate support services when you need them. She will communicate with your physicians to ensure seamless coordination of your care, allowing you to focus on one thing—beating cancer.
Benefits of a multidisciplinary approach:
Whether seeking a second opinion or preparing to start treatment, we encourage patients to see our multidisciplinary team to learn about their options. Coordinated scheduling allows patients to be seen within days of diagnosis. Jupiter Medical Center will work with patients to determine their coverage for such an evaluation. Costs can vary on a case-by-case basis.
